Re McData FabricPaks

Neil et.al.,

Rizeball's post on Yahoo re McData indicated that there was a problem with Brocade's software zoning implementation and NT: (thanx 2 2B)
post.messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com
and
post.messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com

It seems McData is offering 2 separate FabricPak solutions, one for Sun/Solaris and one for NT:
mcdata.com

The Solaris package is JNI's Sbus HBA, NT is Emlx' PCI HBA,
mcdata.com
and they offer an ES 2500(16 port) and ED 5000(32 port) which are respectively one silkworm and 2 chassis mounted silkworms
ES 2500 - mcdata.com
ED 5000 - mcdata.com

If Rizeball's contention that Brocade's software zoning cannot be effectively implemented in an NT environment, (I would like to see independent corroboration of his statement before I accept it as a fact) it stands to reason that McData may be compelled to offer an effective zoning Switch Package for the NT Enterprise market (if there really is such a thing <g>). Or maybe even just one switch for both markets?

As an aside, for those who wonder about Fibre Channel and future Telecommunications Carrier FC/DWDM implementation, take a look at McData's Board of Directors - Pres. of Network MCI and Pres. of Lucent New Venture Group:
mcdata.com

This all makes for interesting speculation. If the hardware vs. software zoning issue is a reality, this has enormous ramifications for Ancor and may explain the impending cascade of OEM announcements.

Jeez, I hope the AT&T at Pebble doesn't extend thru Tuesday, I'll find the cheap motels still full.
