It will take a lot more than a 5% drop in a week to 'scare' anyone.

Certainly true and everyone may again look at it as a golden opportunity to again buy the dip. It has worked for so long and everyone believes it so it follows that it is about time for it to fail. I'm looking at DELL to perhaps signal a change. IBM has already started to do its part. -g-

The other thing is the gains in the averages reflect outsized performance in such a small group of stocks. Crack 50 or 100 stocks and the averages will look pretty sick, mighty quick.
