jebj,

Well, I got more responses to my McDonald's joke than anything I ever posted before, so I guess I struck a nerve.

The deal is that the online brokers are overwhelmed by the astounding growth of their business. It is just as much an explosion as the rest of the internet business world. The internet itself is overwhelmed with the traffic increase. I have been with MBT for nine months and they are constantly adding routers, servers, T1 lines, etc, but they traffic load and data flow have grown faster.

The winners in the online brokerage competition are going to be the firms that hire experienced network builders to take over implementation of their systems. It is no longer a game for business school grads who know a lot about software. Some companies will take this tech challenge seriously and kick ass with "overkill" systems that allow them to take on lots of new customers and serve all of them well. Others will choke on success and lose market share to the winners. Just like any other growing business sector.

It won't be long before we customers benefit as one or more firms get a grip on the business. MBT and Watley seem to be leading the pack. Cyber is a player and there are others that wannabe.

The point of my joke with Dave is that it doesn't help much to freak out and come unglued when things don't work. I speak from experience. We're in a revolution and it's best to adapt, innovate and overcome as best we can until the system works better. I have made money on the worst of internet days. If I can do it, so can you.
