Well Bruce,

If I were a saavy business man (which I am not) that wanted to give the share holders of the bank the greatest value of return, I might be anticipating a somewhat prolonged weakness in the share price of the financial sector. I would wait until prices were significantly lower and then reinstate the stock buyback program.

This is not what it sounds like they are doing though. From what you posted, it sounds to me as though they are being lazy and don't want to do the math because in merger situations I would think that it would be advantages to have a higher stock price in a stock transaction.

I have no real ideas. I think it would be a good idea to get the opinion of an accountant at this point and find out whether there are advantages to have your stock price lower in the case of mergers.

Bruce,

OLDB hasn't been doing very well in the stock price dept. Any word on the street to explain why?

Also, take a look at CVE and ROK. Hope all is well.
