I don't recall the details. I still have a Compuserve account as a backup ISP so currently they're still run separately.

AOL would buy Compuserve to get it's customers and eliminate a competitor. Simple business logic.

Bill,

CIS is still around and their membership has stabilized. They would probably have been gone if AOL didn't buy them. I still participate on some of the CIS boards. Much older demographics but also some high level professionals to talk to.

Their network is a disgrace but I hear they'll be using MCI/Worldcom soon. Not sure if that will improve things as CIS sold their network to WCOM when AOL bought the rest.

CIS still has several million members.
