Maytag's 1999 Business Outlook

From Maytag's Website:

Business Outlook:

We are anticipating continued strength across our home and commercial product lines, although the growth rate will be lower than the exceptional growth in 1998. However, we still anticipate that our planned product introductions will lead to better than industry growth rates. Maytag's growth opportunities for the first quarter of 1999 will be based on the following initiatives:

The upgraded version of the Maytag Neptuneā„¢, with improved cleaning capabilities, is being launched this quarter even though the original version of Neptune continues to grow sales.

The extension to the heritage models of the Dependable Care® vertical axis washers will be launched later in the quarter with new innovative features to drive renewed consumer interest. More specifically, the Atlantisā„¢ washer possesses a 10% larger tub and offers superior, top-load cleaning performance with the only "true white cycle" in the industry. In addition, it offers an ergonomic cabinet for easier access. This is very important in super-capacity washers. A real innovative feature is a built-in 30-day detergent dispenser.

The recent acquisition of Jade Range offers yet additional premium platforms for high-end residential products under the Dynasty brand and commercial free standing ranges under the Jade brand.

A newly introduced Jenn-Air curved glass wall oven is selling well and is the first of a series of new products that will reposition the brand even higher to compete more effectively with both U. S. and foreign products.

China refrigerators recently began shipping in somewhat limited quantities for the first quarter.

First quarter new product benefits which were not in place last year include: Neptune Superstack washer and dryer, WindTunnel selfpropelled vacuums, side-by-side refrigerators, high-end dishwasher with sanitization and glass front bottle venders.

New distribution opportunities which were not in place in the first quarter last year include: Jenn-Air, Magic Chef and Hoover products in Maytag Home Appliance Centers; Sears Canada for Maytag branded products; and an exclusive distribution agreement with Heilig-Meyers for Maytag branded products.
