I have the same question. Given the strategic value of Ascend to Lucent I cannot see the deal falling apart or being renegotiated (by Lucent - although I could envision Ascend renegotiating a better deal if Lucent continues to drop), yet the spread appears to be widening incrementally. I would be curious if anyone with ties to the arb community can offer a viable explanation for this (conspiracy theorists need not apply). All the best.
