Michelle-- lets keep it simple:
1) The contents of a book are written by a multitude of authors and published by a wide range of publishing companies that help bring their intellectual property to market.
2) Printing is not the same as publishing, but is part of the production and distribution process.
3) A printer can print for any number of publishers.
4) Printing close to the customer is the key when margins are low and time is of the essence.
5) You cannot ship to order if you cannot print to order.
6) AMZN cannot print to order. Barnes can and is expanding that capability.
7) Compaq had a distribution system that they did not want to queer by going direct -- a problem that Barnes does not have, but that will take another note and I don't have time right now.
8) The is NO other model for 0 inventory in this business -- if you think there is, then name it.
9) There is not zero inventory in this model either because you still need supplies on hand for printing.
