You know Michael, I would like to see some statistics on how many of the abortions that are performed every year are partial birth abortions. It seems of late that every time the subject of abortion in general comes up, somebody chimes in with how horrible partial birth abortions are. That implies that PBAs are somehow representative of all abortions, but I don't think they really are. I think they're used as an example solely because they are unquestionably horrible. I think they're used for the same incremental purpose that child porn is used by would-be censors. It's the implied argument that since this one aspect of this thing is clearly unacceptable, all of it is unacceptable; and since this one aspect of this thing should potentially be banned, all of it should be banned. That said, I really don't want to argue this point with you. As I've stated repeatedly and as you've apparently chosen to ignore, I am anti-abortion and wish to live in a world where nobody has one. But I'm also practical and libertarian enough to recognize that making a thing illegal is not the answer. All that does is to take a segment of society who could potentially use some help, some guidance or simply a smack upside the head, and turn them into criminals. I don't believe that abortion is in any way a good thing, I just feel that its prohibition would be even worse. I think that it's a very serious subject that should be dealt with very carefully and with much consideration, not simply in a kneejerk fashion. I recognize the contradictions inherent in my view that abortion is wrong but should not be banned, which is why I wish that people weren't so f**king ignorant as to put themselves into positions where they feel that abortion is their only feasible option. But I also believe that branding these people as criminals would not help anyone. And I reiterate, I don't want to argue this subject. My position is and remains: 1)Abortion is wrong, and... 2)Criminalizing it would make the situation worse, not better. To me, this is a thing that we need to evolve beyond, and in order to do that we must be willing to wait. Regards, -Bob
