Well, take it from somebody who works with networks on a daily basis... there will always be companies out there trying to compete with the leader - usually on price. I have lost count of the presentations and demos I have attended given by companies in that situation. There are no limits to what is possible and how low they will go with their price to get a big company like AOL on their client list. However, often you see those big companies throw the lot out the door a few months down the line when they realize WHY the market leader is the market leader ... even with higher prices.

It happens all the time. Also in the Server market, where IBM and HP would love to give Sun some competition.

I wouldn't put too much in this, as long as the leaders such as SUNW and CSCO stay on their toes and keep innovating to keep that edge.
