Yes there is, in my opinion, Michael. In fact I personally am counting on Ampex unbundling tech from their patents and high end products into other products and/or markets someday ( Keepered media was just their first attempt to do that ). That has been a big part of the potential value of this company to many longs. They do need some cash flow to fund efforts like that. Hope the equity markets provide some of that flow. ( actually i hope they supply a TON of that flow ...lol....... can't imagine why I hope that).
My comment simply meant that if you need 25.6 terabytes stored - buy a DST 812 library with quad density tapes and a service contract....job done for a long long time. In 21 square feet of floor space. Later more tapes are purchased but that's about it. No planned obsolescence - though, as Gus mentioned, perhaps the 8X density that will come someday may have to sacrifice backward compatibility.
DST sales were doubling year over year when I first bought AXC, but though Ampex has since done a wonderful job of refining the product- they hit a wall. Only so many organizations - albeit a rapidly growing number - can use that kind of heavy metal storage. And for most of them the purchase of just one will do the job. If AXC ever becomes the growth stock we may dream of, it will probably take more than DST sales to bring it about. Still, I will be glad of the revenue from each and every one.
- as an aside ......I agree with Jubimer and others that SOMETHING along the lines of web related products or software or technical improvements is likely to be forthcoming. They wouldn't be trying to establish the Ampex name in video and audio on the web if there were not something proprietary to back it up.
And as always, I dream of seeing an Ampex audio product or two on the shelves again someday ( sigh).

In other words, I do not think AXC would have tried to establish an early presence in video delivery on the net (as Ed and others described persuasively before the fact ) unless they thought they could leave a big footprint there. Personally I think they can, or I would have pocketed my profit and exited into this recent surge. I believe in their excellence and ability ..... even on the hypercompetitive shifting sands of tech and the net.
