Hitachi to Raise Group Semiconductor Investment, Nikkei Says

Tokyo, Feb. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Hitachi Ltd. will increase capital investment in its group semiconductor business by 10 billion yen ($88.5 million) to 50 billion yen in the year through March, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported, without citing sources. Hitachi expects to post a group net loss of 375 billion yen for the year. The company wants to increase chip production because it expects recovering demand for integrated circuits will help its earnings, the report said.

Hitachi said last week it will lose a larger-than- expected 375 billion yen in the year, its first-ever full-year loss, because of restructuring charges and the yen's strength against the dollar.
