Yes. To clarify, SID and the computer name affect security in
an MS network. Specifically, a user account Jake on \\Flake
(with network user name Flake\Jake) is considered to be a
different Flake\Jake if the account exists on an NT with
the same name and accounts but different SIDs. Trouble
is, try and figure out what went wrong.

Absolutely nothing to do with the internet. Guess I didn't
make that clear. MS networking only, for network permissions
within a workgroup. Domains are actually simpler in this
regard, though the problem can still come up if you try to
join the domain for the second time with an existing name and
different SID.

In that post I was asking two unrelated questions. One about SID the other about web access for the backup NT install. Should have at least started a new paragraph for the second topic, but well..you know how it is sometimes:-)
