Democrats Urge Censure Measure but G.O.P. Balks nytimes.com

Hey Bob, on the off chance you're still reading, I thought you'd appreciate the continuing news on the "rule of law" front. I'm sure it doesn't matter to you, smugly secure in your moral superiority on this matter, but what the heck.

While some Democrats predicted Sunday that neither the perjury nor the obstruction of justice articles would receive a majority of 51, let alone the 67 votes needed for conviction, the perjury count appeared to be in the most trouble.

Sen.Richard C. Shelby, a conservative Alabama Republican, predicted as many as 10 to 15 Republicans would vote against the perjury charge.

Sen.Susan Collins, R-Maine, said on CBS News' "Face the Nation" that the president's "grand jury testimony is replete with lies, half-truths and evasions. But the legal test for perjury is a difficult one to meet, and he seems to have navigated the shoals of the perjury laws in a way that may allow him to avoid it."

Of course, the "truth and justice" / "rule of law" crowd here can't be bothered with this legal test for perjury mumbo jumbo, any more than they can be bothered with presumption of innocence or any other inconvenient aspects of the "rule of law". Clinton is Capone, or the antichrist, or whatever, that's all you need to know.

I personally believe that you would seek to excuse Clinton because you are, at heart, a dishonorable person.

I have NEVER said that Bill Clinton the person should not be tried in a court of law. But I have ALWAYS said Bill Clinton the President shouldn't be impeached and removed from office over this issue.
