Thank you for your patience. I'm probably getting way ahead of the important issues that have to be resolved in the near term for SANs to become widely adopted.

My understanding is that SANs will operate on dedicated optical fiber. Is it realistic to consider the possibility of a company linking several facilities in a metropolitan area (or around the country for that matter) into a single SAN? Would this SAN require a dedicated fiber, or could bandwidth (wavelengths?) be leased from someone else who is running data/video/voice over the fiber? What other alliances might need to be formed to allow long distance SANs? If the above is complete nonsense feel free to ignore.
