Gene, my reading of this is that you get pleasure annoying people. Personally, I do not understand how people can feel good about themselves by intentionally attacking or annoying others, but as they say, "It takes all kinds."

My question to you is: What do you ultimately expect to achieve via your postings on the CPQ thread? Rephrased, what is the desired ultimate end of your postings, the means to this end?

Lynn

Re:

"In my compliance role of a flagship 60 man and 3 billion in assets office, I am nevertheless in the enviable position of gauging public sentiment better than most."
"I have obviously struck a nerve here with this infantile bunch, but that in itself is another "window" into Compaq's soul."

I don't post very often, but after reading many of your self serving posts, I felt a need to respond. However, after reading these two lines from your recent message, it's obvious that you're so full of yourself, there is no way to communicate with you intelligently. Quite honestly, that goes for Kelley and the other Dell heads that choose to come over and try to show us all how smart you are, and accomplish exactly the opposite effect.
Since you know nothing about me, I resent your remark that we Compaq threaders are "infantile". I know it's hard for a person of your elevated mental stature to humble himself, but you owe me and many of the other people on this thread an apology.
By the way, I have traded in and out of Dell three times in the past year for profits each time, as well as being very profitable in CPQ. But just because I made money in Dell, it would never occur to me to try to "show up" people on this or other threads.
It is that kind of selfish, "pat yourself on the back" attitude, that shows truly which people are infantile.

I will continue to illicit emotional reaction

I'm sure you illicit emotional reaction wherever you go. Negative reaction. If you had any sense you would realize how totally stupid you come across over here.

If you make a dog salivate often do not be surprised if it bites you.

Is that a bell I hear?

Re: "will continue to illicit emotional reaction".

One more thing. It doesn't come across well, when one is trying to educate people they think need their help, if you can't properly use the English language. The correct word for your sentence would be "elicit". Illicit means.....well...we'll let you figure that out for yourself.

gene -Re"sentiment will one day turn in favor of Dell"
Dell has a market cap of $128 billion.
Compaq has a market cap of $74 billion.

Don't you think that sentiment is already fairly strong for Dell. By any measure a market cap of $128 billion is very impressive.

I own both Dell and Compaq. Both are great companies. Dell has obviously been a much better stock to own over the last few years.

The most important question to ask is what company is the better investment today for making future profits. The only problem that I see with Dell is that with a such high stock valuation versus earnings and revenue, they can not afford to make any mistakes or the stockholders will be punished severely.

Fortunately, Dell has done a wonderful job of avoiding any serious mistakes in the last few years. I hope they keep it up.

Gene,

Your last post produced a spectrum of responses.
I notice some are more interested in punctuation, anesthesia for the thread and no real discussion of fundamentals. <g>

I can not imagine what it is like to manage 60 people in an investment firm with 3B in assets. It must be interesting!

I am awaiting the the 10-K for CPQ which hopefully will shed more light on the nature of the Christmas quarterly report.

Sentiment is certainly a measurable aspect of the investment decision. I understand what you are doing.

Regards,

Jim Kelley
