I can't think of a single reason for why Oracle would want to buy Informix.

Oracle would take possession of Informix's vast sea of customers! Relative to its current customer list, Ifmx's is insignificant. Oracle must have 100 marquee customer's for each big Informix customer.

Oracle would then own Informix's superior database technology! If superior technology was all that important, Informix and IBM would be doing a lot better against Oracle right now -- Microsoft a lot worse.

Informix's stock would soar if Oracle purchased it! Indeed it would. However, this isn't a reason for Oracle to do something this silly.
