Giving credit to one source for moving a stock, I think is silly. Crediting the unknown face in the NY Times article, for example, discounts general market trend, market makers, related news events, all of the discussion here on SI on the stocks mentioned and all sources having a market effect.

A brokerage house upgrading a stock is a good example of how an individul acting alone does not move a stock. A brokerage upgrade creates wave buying as the information is released to different audiences at different intervals. Supposedly, the institutional clients are first informed, then at the bottom of the food chain are the people receiving the news via the press release or media coverage. A faceless internet individual would need to create a similar network or at least a network sophisticated enough to create wave buying to support the price trend.
