Lag in Profits Puzzling --- from the Associated Press

"Fourth-quarter reports released these past 3 weeks have shown an interesting quirk in the economy: Strong growth in the production of goods and services have far outpaced growth in corporate earnings.

How long can this last?.....

... It is very unusual to see healthy growth in GDP without growth in earnings....Profits almost always grow faster than GDP. For every point of growth in GDP, you usually get 2 to 4 points in earnings growth.., said Edward Keon, director of quantitative research at Prudential Securities..."
