The Republicans may be re-evaluating their strategy now that Pat Robertson of Christian Coalition fame has advocated dropping the Clinton trial in order to focus on winning the White House in 2000. Just what we need---a reasonable Republican.

You sound like my neighbor, who is relatively conservative and very smart. Can't stand Clinton, but dislikes what Congress is doing even more.

It's not hard to be more conservative than I am. Actually, it's not that I can't stand Clinton---I actually admire his ability to communicate empathetically, and his ability to capture swing votes. I just feel that a good president should be able to argue persuasively for his (and his party's) beliefs and still sway enough moderate voters to win elections and get legislation passed. To me, Clinton's real failing has been his move rightward, which I'm convinced he did solely to stay alive politically after his first-term setbacks on gays in the military and universal health care (both of which I favored then and would favor now if any politician has the guts to bring them up again.)
