Mike:I've always said if only I would have bought AOL.

This is how aol works .
1)huge subscriber base & all or most of them have e-mail @ aol.com
a)even if you get your isp for free most of these subscribers will never change service as it is a pain to send out hundreds of e-mails notifying people of new e-mail address.
b)Even though there business plan does not make much sense AOL is a household name like GM or Ford Motor company

c)They have the money to buy out companys like NSCP,Mindspring etc.. for an even bigger subscriber base & in the future you will see them adding dollars to there monthly cost as they are basically a monoply & can command there price as most people will just pay the extra couple of bucks without going through the hassle of switching services

this is just my humble opinion as I blew it back in OCTOBER 98 when I could have bought aol @ 69.What a perfect 3 bagger!!!

have fun Regards THE PRO

MM - Free ISP...

Surprisingly, I think most people would not want this. This is, of course, assuming that the reason it's free because you get streaming ads of some sort. If not, then that's pretty good. *g*

Mindspring researched the possibility of offering a reduced or no fee with some type of ads. When they brought up this idea to their "testing" community, 98% of the people *hated* the idea. Some said they would leave if MS went that direction. Others even said they would pay *more* to avoid that!

That kinda settled it for me. Free ISPs will have their few customers, but will never compete with paying ISPs or AOL.
