Yeah, his move is the logical next move for targeted advertising. It certainly does change the business model for box makers like Compaq, but hey - Nokia has seen tremendous growth as their phones have become increasingly subsidized by customer service purchases. Red: Haines just did the Bill Gross story - COMPAQ filled the screen. Is this a positive? I think a lot of people would take a free PC in exchange for ads. It's not like CPQ is giving them away - they should be able to sell a lot of PCs to Gross. Why buy a DELL when you can get a free Compaq? Wonder how Alta Vista figures into this??????
