LaserVision January cases up 225 percent

ST. LOUIS, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Laser Vision Centers Inc. said Thursday it performed over 6,200 surgical cases in January 1999 in the
United States, up 225 percent from the 2,750 cases in the same month a year ago.

Laser Vision is the world's largest operator of excimer lasers with locations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, and Greece. The excimer laser is a device which allows eye surgeons to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism with an outpatient procedure.

Laser Vision reported that over 14,950 cases were performed on its U.S. laser systems during the third quarter ended January 31, 1999, a 122 percent increase over the same quarter a year ago and a 29 percent increase over the previous quarter.

The company operated 35 lasers in the U.S. during all or part of the quarter ended January 31, 1999, up from 21 lasers at the same time last year.
