I read a Merrill Lynch report on the toy fair. They say Mattel is very strong for '99 and things will be looking up after the March quarter. Specifically, inventory in the channel is way down, and Toys R Us has begun stocking up again. Barbie is going to have a hot 50th Anniversary year. Toy Story 2 should help the Disney line. And Mattel's acquisition of TLC will vault Mattel to No. 2 (behind MSFT) in entertainment/educational software. Mattel is also going to launch Mattel.com, which will be a "family destination" where Mattel products can be purchased. I'm looking for a burst into the mid-30s in the next 6 mos.
