I do not believe the MMX tech had anything to do with the JV. MMX is strictly instructions that extend the graphics capability of the CISC CPU. Although DSP's can function as a graphics compute engines that do to the high sustained math through put, the announcement indicated that the first fruits of the JV would be a fixed point DSP silicon chip. IMHO, Intel will use ADI tech to implement System-on-a-chip functionality. A CPU core with DSP co-processor, and embedded SRAM. Maybe MMX will improve, but not solely because of the link to ADI.

Maybe INTC tried to link up with LU and/or TI but were rebuked. ADI is a good partner for Intel.
