Yes, I agree the R128 is no leap in technology when it comes to 2D or 16bit 3D. It's near the top of the heap, but nothing special. However when it comes to high resolutions, 32 bit rendering, DVD decoding, and HDTV support the R128 is definitely one generation ahead of the competition. Chips that are 6-8 months off are finally announcing similar 32bit rendering performance as the R128. None of them have announced an iDCT engine or HDTV support. These will all come in time, but there is no question that the R128 is a step and a half ahead of the current competition. To top it off, it's available from the number 1 graphics manufacturer, creams everybody else on the industry accepted benchmarks & games that all OEMs look at, has all the right feature list tickmarks and because of ATI's efficient processes also happens to be cheaper then everybody else. Gee, I wonder who everybody is going to choose. ATI's biggest challenge is going to be producing enough R128's to meet the demand from the OEMs. Looks like another excellent quarter for ATY!
