Not a very exciting conference call in terms of learning anything new. Corky would not comment on any new selections by MSO's when asked during Q and A. He did make a correction regarding the SFA conference call. When SFA CEO said they installed a VOD server for Marcus in about 2 hours, he stated that the server was from Sun Microsystems. Corky confirmed that the server was CCUR's and not Sun's (too bad Jim Mcdonald didn't get it right, it would have been some free publicity). Thus Corky confirmed they have a working server installed with Charter/Marcus (both now owned by Paul Allen). Corky stated that Time Warner would likely deploy VOD later in the year. As was stated in the SFA call, the MSO's are deploying Explorer set top boxes utilizing the digital channel tier and interactive program guide. The MSO's, including Time Warner are deploying the boxes without any services (beyond interactive guide) until they reach penetration rate that will justify turning on services (SFA put that at around 10 percent). As SFA explained, the MSO's can turn on VOD or other services as soon as they want based on deployment of boxes in their systems. He didn't comment at all on RT software business or on the recent addition to the web site of the Campus Televideo seminar series. This sounded a lot like the conference call from the quarter that ended July 31st. Within 6 to 8 weeks of that call, we bagged GIC, Intertainer and Time Warner along with several resellers including Domitel, yet Corky didn't give much visability that it was all about to happen. It seems like he did the same on this call. It is important to point out that both the analyst from Paul Kagan and Raymond James were on the call (RJ just recently picked up SFA as a buy). When asked about the size of the residential market, Corky stated that it is roughly $10 billion worldwide over the next 5 years. He also mentioned another installation in Spain for Telefoncia utilizing VDSL (CCUR is not married to the cable deliver only). Corky also mentioned they would be putting out a press release that they have a new VP joining the VOD sales group who has been a major player in the cable field. They will announce his name and backgroud next week. VOD will be broken off from the company and twenty people will be moved to Atlanta to work in the newly seperated division. I think this is a good idea. As a side note, I can't imagine that a major player like White Rock would buy up all the stock that they could get their hands on if something more significant wasn't on the near term horizon. We shall see.
