ICIX..Digex...new deal -------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday February 9, 10:20 am Eastern Time Intermedia to have public offering of Digex unit NEW YORK, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Telecommunications company Intermedia Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:ICIX - news) said Tuesday it will sell a portion of its Digex unit, which provides Web hosting services, in a public offering. Intermedia expects to own at least 51 percent of Digex after the public offering, but it may decrease its ownership stake in the future. The wholly-owned Digex subsidiary provides web hosting services or the computer resources needed to operate a Web site. Digex anticipates using the proceeds of the public offering to finance a portion of the expenses and capital requirements associated with the continued rapid expansion of the Web hosting business, including constructing additional data centers. Intermedia said it may decide not to proceed with the Digex offering due to possible market conditions or valuation issues. Separately, Intermedia posted record fourth quarter revenues of $193.4 million, up 134 percent over the year-ago revenues of $82.6 million. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) before certain charges was positive $13.5 million, compared with a loss of $9.9 million for the fourth quarter of 1997. Intermedia provides voice and data, local and long distance, and advanced network access services to business and government customers. Shares of Intermedia gained 1-9/16 to 19-1/8.
