New York--Feb 8--A German investor known as Mr. Von Fink is interested in
purchasing a bigger stake in US gold mining giant Homestake Mining Co. and
is in negotiations with the company about a possible waiver of the firm's
poison pill, Homestake chairman, president and CEO Jack Thompson said
today. Von Fink bought 30 million shares in the company between January and
August of last year, according to a company spokesman. His purchases were

New York--Feb 8--US-based Homestake Mining Co has about 18% of its 1999
gold production hedged, chairman, president and CEO Jack Thompson said
today. The company is hedged primarily through puts and forward sales, at
