More on the AW saga.

ActiveWorlds -DOES- block ISPs. I didn't get blocked personally, though. But I went into a chat world and said that my friend had trouble getting into @mart .. the people there said simply that AW must have blocked their IP. From what I gather the blockage is used to restrain "misbehaving" users. While I was there I did see a user or two come into a chat world and scream obscenities. They were asked politely to stop a number of times and finally ejected (and possibly blocked).

I also asked about how many citizens the place has. Supposedly there are about 14,000 citizens and the rest (286,000??) are either bots or unregistered users. Nobody really had a handle on the user base, which irks me because I'd like to find out. During the day there aren't too many users online (probably because they are at work) - like around 200 .. but in the evening the number goes up to like 500 or 600. Reports of the mall are fairly accurate - people standing around chatting like in the other chat rooms. I have seen one or two people shopping while I was there though.

I was not reprimanded or treated with suspicion for any of my probing questions. Again, I urge all you other investors out there to explore AW as I have, and post your findings. It will only help you and everyone else on this thread get a better feel for the kind of place AW really is.

awld does not hold a patent to this technology. When we invented it in 1993, we decided not to patent it. It was displayed publicly in 1994, thus the concepts are public. I am not a lawyer. Worlds Inc. - WLDI also does this.

cheers
