Well this is this year. And you are talking about last year. As long as you adjust your basis in the stock to 0, as of Dec 31, 1998, after you make the claim on Schedule D, and then treat any subsequent sale of the stock on that basis, you should have no problem. They can't make you sell something for .02 that costs you .03 in commissions.
