The flip side is that they were all good. Moving VOD to Atlanta, installed working server at Marcus (which took only 2 hours to get up and running, etc. I guess if they were bad I would hope they didn't have good information. But I agree, I would rather have the company announce it rather than Yahoo board. Just as a matter of point, we did get a "free" look at the Marcus selection. There has been no official press release on the matter. I believe the only reason Corky was able to mention it was because the CEO of SFA mentioned it in the SFA conference call and mistakenly stated the server belonged to Sun. How many other systems are out there or how many other MSO's are leaning toward selecting CCUR? Corky flatly stated he would not engage in that guessing game. I doubt we would have heard about marcus if it weren't for the SFA comments, regardless of the rumors that were circulating.

With the conference call yesterday, I forgot to post an update on the Cablelabs meeting that was held.

Cable modem standard have been agreed upon to get the modems to retail by year end. Some have already been shipping.

IP telephony will likely be delayed in that they have changed strategic direction. Rather than competing on cost, MSO's will likely offer enhanced services (multiline calling, conference calling, video conferencing, etc). Commerical roll out likely pushed to 2001 or late 2000.

Digital set top second generation box has been agreed upon. The key here is that these boxes will work with any of the operators systems, thus allowing boxes to be sold at retail rather than by MSO. It also increases competition by allowing more offerings into the field in 2000. Interestingly (but not surprising since SFA is the systems integrator for Cablelabs) the specs are basicly the current design and standards of the Explorer 2000.

First two interactive services to be deployed are VOD and interent over TV (all operators will be deploying cable modem services on varying timelines). Other services, including IP telephony will be layered on later.

Not much else to report.
