Compaq Announces Price Cuts for ProLiant 800 Workgroup Servers; Reductions up to 23% Give Customers Greater Value; Further Promotions Launched on ProLiant 3000 Range Business Wire - February 09, 1999 09:10 HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 1999--Reaffirming its commitment to setting unrivalled price-performance standards, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ), the world's leading server vendor, today announced price reductions of up to 23 percent(1) on its ProLiant 800 workgroup servers. Compaq now offers customers the expandability of a dual-processor system at a price range traditionally reserved for single-processor systems. The announcement follows continued strong server sales growth with market share growing more than 27 percent(2) in the third quarter of 1998. "Compaq is uniquely positioned to aggressively address customer requirements for affordable, reliable, performance-driven computing solutions," said Paul Gottsegen, Director of North America, Industry-Standard Servers Division. Pricing for a ProLiant 800 server with one Pentium II 350 MHz processor and 64MB of 100MHz registered ECC SDRAM memory start at $1,529--a reduction of 21 percent. Other models are available using 400 and 450 MHz Pentium II processors at reductions of up to 23 percent.
