Nancy, you've obviously misread Anthony Lewis. It has been pointed out clearly and concisely here that Anthony Lewis is stupid, just like the rest of us stupid 2/3 types. So what that he's taught law courses and written award winning books on Constitutional law. Drudge RULES! The ad hominem ad nauseum crowd seems to be making an extra strenuous effort these days to make sure the kinder, gentler forum is good and dead. I'm sure their arguments are making a good impression on any new elements of the stupid 2/3 that happen to wander in here. The S&L fiasco is of course a long running peeve of mine. To think, the Starr inquisition went on for years on some stupid 6-figure land deal that was a small component of a minor S&L failure, while the vast majority of the crooks in Congress got no heat at all. And Starr couldn't even come up with any evidence to present, despite all the inquisition's best methods being exercised. On the Republican candidate, I think GWB will continue to be the best hope. He's at a safe distance from Congress, and he has this conventional interpretation of those pesky Biblical verses. Will the red meat crowd accept him? Maybe the "good Christians" will do penance for never cutting his father a break by accepting the somewhat more charitable Christianity of GWB. Liddy Dole I think is overrated, she's never run for anything. Personally, I'm just waiting for Monica to go on the air with Barbara Walters. I think it will be a fitting coda to the past year. I'm beginning to like the girl, I wager tears will flow on and off screen as Baba tugs the old heartstrings. My daughter Marlene, to combine the somewhat contradictory lines of the House Managers.
