Half of U.S. Households Own a Personal Computer, Dataquest Says

San Jose, California, Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Half of U.S. households
had a personal computer last year, up from 43 percent in 1997, as
models costing less than $1,000 paced the growth in consumer buying.

In 1995, 27 percent of U.S. homes had a PC, according to Dataquest
Inc., a San Jose, California-based researcher.

Worldwide PC shipments rose 15 percent last year, with No. 2 computer
maker Compaq Computer Corp. shipping almost 13 million units.
Lower-priced models and consumers' urge to explore the Internet expanded
the PC's appeal across social and economic groups, Dataquest found.
''The PC is rapidly becoming a standard household appliance,'' said
Van Baker, director for Dataquest's consumer market research.

The popularity of other computer devices also increased last
year. Worldwide hand-held computer shipments rose 61 percent to
more than 3.9 million units, Dataquest said. 3Com Corp.'s PalmPilot
led the industry with a 40 percent share of the market.

If you want to keep your peeing contest public, then how about starting those posts with (pc) if they just contain insults and no substance of general interests to the rest of us. We'll know pc won't mean political correctness but rather peeing contest and will be able to avoid them. I wouldn't want to miss the vast majority of your posts which are well researched and informative. So just give us a discriminator so we won't waste time. It's tough enough trying to make money in the market. Thanks, Bill

Why can't we all just make money. Thats what we are all here for, to learn and discuss a stock and possibly make some money while we are at it. When people get into flame arguments it seems rather stupid and a is a waste of time for every person on the thread has to read the garbage. No offense to anyone, but thats just my 2 cents.

stanley "schmuck": No DD 214 huh?....Thought so....! Imposter! The only reason you survived , if you were in Korea was because you "RAN"...and you are still RUNNING, "AT THE MOUTH" and full of "yiddish" gutter. Your language speaks for what you are! Sounds like the first word you learned as an infant...most likely what your mother called you!!!

"HOW ABOUT STICKING TO AFCI POSTINGS AND USE EMAIL TO DISCUSS ALL YOUR OTHER CRAP!"

"DO YOU ENJOY BEING SADISTIC AND ATTACKING PEOPLE"

I'll leave you alone "stanley schmuck".....no one gives a damn about you, no matter where you go...that has been the story of your life!

If my father was like you....I would have made sure that there was at least a considerable amount of distance, which would limit any association!! I bet you don't live anywhere near your children...that is if you were able to produce any!
