Cultural imperialism is another thing. I think that is why French gov. says it is illegal for French gov. employees to use some English words officially. It is a crime, subject to fine and prison term.

Ken:

<<<Arrogance with a willingness to use force for any convenient reason to bully other countries into submission is close enough for me! >>>

I'm not sure what it is you're using as a reference here. If you mean Clinton's bombing of the Sudan and Pakistan...that was a despicable act perpetrated for short-term political gain in the U.S. by an unscrupulous prez, IMHO, but not done to gain their submission. Ditto for the present Iraqi situation...but not for Desert Storm.
If you're referring to Grenada, that's a finer line...but could fit your statement, at least in some people's opinion.
But I find your argument regarding our supposed cultural imperialism specious, unless you have some evidence of it being some sort of government plot.<G> Unfortunately people often adopt the worst of what's available...look at how the teeny-boppers have embraced rap "music." Would you say that's a result of a black imperialistic conspiracy to degrade the white culture? I don't think you would, it wouldn't be PC, and it wouldn't be right, either, IMHO.
If you agree we don't fit the definition of being imperialistic, then why use the word.
