I've read some things also that Japanese financial institutions were repatriating funds to solidify balance sheets for the end of their fiscal year in March. The government is intervening to keep the dollar up to avoid hurting their exports. I've also read that Japan may have to do another, larger restructuring that would cause a downturn. China, Hong Kong, Taiwan are the last to feel the Asian turndown --- they're still going down.

US recessions usually result from overheating of the economy and the higher interest rates that follow.
