Argentina Gold Shares Drop; Barrick Lets Offer Expire (Update1)

Costs are expected to decline to $125 an ounce, as its
Pasqua mine in South America achieves full operation.

Pasqua is slated to produce 875,000 ounces a year for about
$45 an ounce, making it the lowest cost gold mine in the world,

price'' to expand its holdings in the resource rich El Indio
Belt, which runs along the Chilean-Argentine border. The latest
bid was ''a final offer,'' he said.

Barrick sought to acquire the rest of Argentina Gold to gain
control of the Veladero gold exploration project in Argentina.
The site is adjacent to Barrick's Pasqua deposit across the
border in Chile.

There are rumors that Melnuk's resignation came after the top guys lost confidence in his maneuvering capabilities to help Pascua and the whole strategy for the regional future for ABX in Chile-Argentina
