Any house that makes the stock can buy 100 shares at the close and make the stock close on the ask. The...massaging...that these deals go through would amaze you. Well, probably not you, but you know what I mean. Most people, for example, do not know that a market maker can make a trade print twice, thus giving the "impression" that a 10,000 share trade is really 20,000 shares traded. This has been known to occur when someone wants to see an average volume look better than it really should, or to average out a "bad" day, etc., etc. They know all the tricks.
