the strategy does work, if you deal in issues that you intend to buy or sell and that you become intimate with the price action...who wouldn't want to hold large cap growth stocks long term, and add to positions on selloffs (re:oct 8 1998, missed dell @41, but got it @43, believe it closed @53...we know the rest of the story)USE THE ANALOGY OF A CASINO, THE ODDS ARE WITH THE HOUSE....when you write calls against your portfolio or puts against cash that you are willing to commit to purchase the underlying issue, THEN YOU BECOME THE HOUSE...the bettor loses in time...you can take a deep breath and deal the cards to another bettor.... AS FAR AS MARGIN...WOULD NEVER USE IT, BECAUSE IF THE MARKET TURNS RAPIDLY..YOU GET THE REG T CALL....PUT UP OR SELL OUT....with selling options you simply close your calls and sell your puts...make money up or down, sleep at night...
