William;

Did you notice that the whole market collapsed in the final minutes of trading today? Or that there were sell imbalances all over the place? The sellers made stocks go down today, not the specialists! And I wouldn't say that SEG volume at the close was insignificant. Back to lurking...

I have no problem with you putting your money or mouth on the line. I believe in the efficient market theory (weak form) that hypothesizes that all pertinent info is already priced into stocks and the use of charts or other technical/histroical data is useless and will not lead to above average market returns on a sustained basis. What I do object to though is your posts that specialists are manipulating the stock. You statements indicate that you have no knowledge of their strategies or purpose at the NYSE. Everytime the stock gaps up/down you sound the siren. Just for your knowledge specialists make more trading stocks that display alot of volatility but in a narrow band. Typically they are on the losing end of trades when a stock gaps up or down suddenly. Remember that their book is typically hedged so it is not as simple as "the stock was marked down" so the specialist could load up on stock only to move it back up minutes later at a big profit. In actively traded stocks like Seagate that trade 3 million plus shares a day - their role becomes minimized. Read a book or visit the floor and you will learn that your posts are just full of baloney!!
