<<There were children involved in both families that were hurt - severely - from this situation.>>

I wasn't part of this conversation. I think you meant that post for Ish. I certainly am sensitive to your opinion on this. Although, again, it is not the Michelle of yesteryear. That is good. I don't know what to think of Hyde. If I knew more about him I might admire him or I might hate him. In either event I don't consider his character pertinant to whether or not bill clinton is worthy to represent the trust of the American people.

I'm not sure Hyde's "youthful indiscretions" are representative of the man's character in 1999 or not, however. There is a big difference between someone who admitted his mistakes thirty years ago and has lived a different life since and bill clinton. People, Americans and that includes Republicans (Partisonship aside) are quick to forgive someone who has had a change of heart and is trying hard to make up for a mistake. Most people believe nothing has changed for bill. He is laying low dodging bullits, the best he can, but not to many believe he is a different person than a year ago. From your descriptions of him it doesn't seem that you think so either.

<<She was a texas resident brees. >>

I'm Ish not brees and the screwing took place in Illinois. Since when does Texas law count in Illinois?

<<I dont know how the Ohio connection came in (maybe one or both lived there for a time). >>

I lived in Germany for a time. I go by the laws where I live, not where I used to live.

<<He lied to his wife about it too>>

So did someone else like Slick. But did he lie to a court and the American people like Slick?

Bush Criticizes Chelsea Coverage nytimes.com

I got to wonder here. Is GWB going to be dead meat with the red meat crowd? Is he the kindest, gentlest Bush? Is he taking those New Testament verses oft ignored by the inerrant Bible crowd all too seriously? Is he taking this "compassionate conservatism thing too far? Time will tell.

Gov. George W. Bush joined President Clinton and his wife in voicing disappointment over a magazine cover story on Chelsea Clinton, saying concerns about his own teen-age daughters remain a factor as he considers running for president.

''If the president and Mrs. Clinton are disappointed that their daughter's on the cover of the magazine, I'm disappointed for them,'' Bush said Tuesday.

''I'm beginning to understand better how teen-agers feel. It's a sensitive age. I respect their desire for privacy. I'm sorry it happened,'' Bush said.

Last week, the Clintons said they were ''profoundly saddened'' by People magazine's decision to do a cover story on Chelsea.

Bush and his wife, Laura, have twin daughters, who are 17.

''My daughters matter a lot to me. I love them more than life,'' the Republican governor said. ''My most important job is father. So I'm concerned, as I say, about the meat-grinder of national politics.

''I don't think one magazine cover is going to be the deciding factor; I think the issue's much bigger than that. But that's a consideration.''

Bush repeated that remains undecided about a presidential bid next year.
