*Patents, IPR, Monopoly and the Evil Q!* Where John D Rockefeller and William Gates III have gone before, let's hope Q! is not dragged. I suppose there will have to be a lot more success yet, but give it time and some royalty streams flowing in.

internetwk.com

John D sold oil, $ill Gates sells software [mostly we get a CDROM with the purchase], Q! collects royalties every time somebody else produces and sells something. Now THAT sounds like a crooked, monopolistic, greedy self-centred scam in an essential technology [WWeb] if ever there was one. I hope the fanatics who believe such stuff don't cast their eye onto Qualcomm. I suppose they won't until there is a mountain of money coming in. But they'll be on the case then.

I dread the day!

*Tero says Yay for triple mode and seems to like cdmaOne!!!* debry.com

This is a bit of a turnaround. Tero seems to have given up the "Nokia is deliberately making scungey cdmaOne handsets". Now he is saying they are making the best! Wow! Backing triple mode. I wonder how long that one will last. Sure, a handset can squeeze the bits in [with some penalty though not a huge amount for people who don't mind a slightly bigger handset] but they still cost money. If a cdmaOne chipset goes into a triple mode handset by Nokia, then they still pay Q! the full royalty. The royalty will be boosted by the cost of the GSM components which is lovely irony. The royalty is on the wholesale price of the handset.

Go Nokia! Maybe they could make them quadruple mode and really pay us some royalties.

Haven't times changed for Frezza and Tero. Now Tero is saying Q! ThinPhone is not going to be good enough because Nokia are the cdmaOne champions.

Hey, Tero, how about flogging the old GSM nag some more?
