This is a bit draconian imho. Jailed for a year will do the job nicely. Upstanding citizens have a dread fear of jail - as it should be. And the threat of jail will do much to keep courts REAL careful.

I agree with E that life without parole is a viable stand-in for death. While the death penalty doesn't offend me at my core, in this country it is very very expensive and drawn out. And it is the king bull moose of political footballs. Cobalt and E have a point when they say that the death penalty is a politician's best friend. And politicians and prosecutors come from the same genus of aquatic carnivores.
