<<Hey eddie, if you sign on SI, some of us would like to hear where things stand,>>
Thanks Ice, appreciate the concern. Where we stand? In utter disgust of the established medical community! A brief history of the last 6 weeks. Six weeks ago when we met with the oncologist to get the report
of her test he said the cancer had returned and was in the liver. He wanted to start chemo again. I asked what he was going to use and his reply was Taxol. I asked him if the cancer was a canidate for Herceptin which was approved back last September. It only is effective on tumors which are positive with the HER2 gene. His answer was " Herceptin, that's very good< I had not thought of that". With that we
decided we needed a second oppion. We also started a detoxification and nutricianal program. Last week (Mon thru Fri) We went to M D Anderson Cancer center In Houston. We were instructed to bring all medical tests, and records. Tuesday mourning we met with the assigned
doctor ( for about 10 min.). I asked him if there was a nutritionist
on staff so we could get some information about the things we should be doing. His answer was " They are just now beginning to look at nutrition and dont have anything yet". I found out later fron some friends, whose daughter-in-law just finished up over there, That they had met with a nutritionist. The rest of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were filled with more test. We had an appointment with the
doctor on Friday at 4:20. He strolled into the little room at 6:00, did not say jack shit about " sorry I'm late " are anything. He said your cancer has returned in the liver and you should start chemo. I ask the main question I wanted answered ( comparing the test that were done six weeks ago with the ones just run. Have the tumors shrunk. grown are stayed the same). His answer was " I don't Know! Hello, what the hell did we lug 40 pounds of X-rays and reports over there for? Did we spend a shit pot full of money on new test only to have them ignored? He said they found a spot on one rib that they need to Look at closer because if it was a tumor he needed to add another medicine to the coctail he would reccommend. He said he set test up for Monday. I said bullshit, we a going home in the morning and do them now. We took the order slip and went down too X-ray. As the lady was entering
the stuff in the computer I noticed the number on the slip and asked what that was. "It's her patient number" I pointed out that it was not her number. They had sent us down with some guy's order for test. On
top of all this the damn Oncologist here did not send the test over on the cancer that would tell them if the cancer had the HER2 gene. We got that crap straight yesterday and looks like she will start chemo again Monday next week. Sorry this is so long but It did me good to cuss the sumbitches again.
