>>>You're certainly correct about the inherent insecurity of most e-mail systems. However it is
my understanding that CheckFree will deliver E-bills via the web (and not via e-mail), using
the asymmetric, or public key cryptographic capability available in the more recent browser
software.

>>>This delivery method permits only the intended recipient to view the e-bill, and provides a
method of positive identification, such that the recipient can have great confidence that
the sender of the bill is who it says it is and not an imposter.

From CheckFree's mybills site ( mybills.com ):

Be sure that the e-mail address you provide us during enrollment is correct. We use this address to send you a friendly reminder if you have an "E-Bill" that has not been viewed after four days. If the address you sent us is incorrect or you want to change it, please send a message through E-Bill to Web Support telling them what you want the e-mail address to be and they will change it for you.

I personally like this approach. I wouldn't even mind the e-mail containing some billing data. For example, you might have a credit balance on a credit card so the e-mail would inform you of that and you would no you could ignore the trip to the e-bill site.

Sam (IMHO)

BTW, There still isn't a link to the mybills site from the CheckFree home page. In addition, why doesn't CheckFree set up a page at mybills.com which provides some FAQ and refers interested individuals to the secure site? I had a hell of a time finding the link to mybills.com . If you try mybills.com you get an error message.
