Gates's stake in Microsoft down by 1 percent

WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Chief Executive Bill Gates's stake in Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) stood at 19.8
percent as of late January, off by 1 percent from the 20.8 percent he held in early September, the software giant said Tuesday.

His stake is worth about $82 billion, based on current valuations. Gates, who co-founded the Redmond, Wash. company with Paul Allen, beneficially owned
500,777,800 shares as of January 29, according to Microsoft's definitive proxy filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

That was slightly down from the 515,777,800 shares he beneficially held as of September 11, said the company's previous definitive proxy filed in late September.

Both figures were based on about 2.5 billion shares outstanding at the time.

Frank P. Pearson, you should look at it this way IBM, Lucent, Cisco, Sun Microsystems and etc..all went down after their earnings. None of them had spectacular earnings, these companies even announced stock splits & the stock still went DOWN. What makes you think Dell will be better then all the tech companies that I mentioned above. You think Dell is selling more servers then Cisco. Most of the PC purchased last year was at the sub 1000 range, majority of dell's PC are very expensive. If you think dell is going to beat the whisper# by a mile, then you should sell your house and buy more dell.
