Totally off topic

What about investing in companies that pollute the waters and the air..I guess that takes care of smokestack America including oil and chemical and textile companies. Why single out tobacco stocks on moral grounds?

Stephen, at the risk of having all kinds of stones and brickbats thrown at me, the thing that distinguishes the tobacco industry from all others (to paraphrase Hillary Clinton) is the fact that the normal use of these products results in serious disease (like cancer, emphysema and heart problems). I am not suggesting that these companies be prevented from operating, I am simply stating that I have moral problems in investing in such companies.

I think that it is important that we as investors keep our moral compass. Just as I would not invest in MO, I think it unlikely that religious organizations would feel comfortable in investing in legal bordellos or Playboy.
