I think that Rambus was chosen based on 800 MHz. 300 Mhz isn't going to cut the mustard.

The gossip at the Hot Chips conference last summer was that while it certainly was well thought out, the decision to go to Rambus by Intel may have been political, marketing, and business position driven than technical. They supported the Scumbria notion that the reality offered by RAMBUS may not be superior to the alternatives.

However, there is the "golden rule" of technology that states that "he who has the gold rules". Intel has a lot of gold.
