[Off-topic] Brady, here is something we can agree on.

Yes, it would be a nightmare if the MMs and specialists walked off their jobs.

As much as we may complain about the profits they make and the dirty pool they sometimes play, the world without them would be a much, much dimmer place than the world with them.

With nobody to make a market, we'd be at the mercy of the herd of daytraders. How about 50% daily swings in most stocks? How about the government taking away margin? (Probably a GOOD idea, anyway...) How about a massive exodus from the market by the general public?

I suppose that the marketplace would eventually self-correct, perhaps with some daytraders getting very fat and essentially acting as market-makers and specializing in particular stocks. But that would take years and years to settle out, and in the mean time the public would be disillusioned and wouldn't touch the market for years.

Sure, you can hate em'. Just don't hate em' so much that they go away.
